At Jeavons Wood Primary School, we are committed to providing an inclusive, happy and stimulating environment where every child’s potential is valued. We want all pupils to feel confident, supported and respected as members of our school and the wider community.
Our Senior Mental Health Lead is Mrs Constable, supported by Mrs Hubbard, our Mental Health First Aider and first point of contact.
Promoting positive mental health and wellbeing is central to our ethos. Through our curriculum, daily practice and whole‑school culture, we help children to:
- Recognise their strengths and challenges
- Develop self‑esteem and confidence
- Work and play cooperatively
- Compete fairly and show respect for others
- Recover from setbacks and persevere
- Build and sustain friendships
- Understand their rights and the rights of others
- Solve problems independently and collaboratively
- Manage feelings such as frustration, anger and anxiety
- Value and celebrate differences between people
We believe that nurturing wellbeing enables children to become effective, successful learners.
We work closely with the Mental Health Support Team (MHST) for South Cambs, offering support for children and families around anxiety and behaviour. Referrals can be made through Mrs Hubbard.
As part of our commitment to inclusion, Jeavons Wood is working towards the Rainbow Flag Award, recognising schools that actively promote LGBTQIA+ inclusion. We have already achieved our Student Voice, Supportive Parents and Governors, Skilled Teacher and Pastoral Support badges, and aim to complete the final two in the coming year. Through assemblies, curriculum work, whole‑school projects and our Diversity Ambassadors, we ensure every child feels seen, valued and supported.
